We are proud to host a BePeaceWorkshop, presented by Rita Marie Johnson of Costa Rica. Rita Marie Johnson is the founder of the Rasur Foundation, which sponsors the Academy for Peace of Costa Rica. She initiated a bill for a Ministry for Peace in Costa Rica, which has now become law. In this workshop, she will share an extraordinary practice she has termed BePeace®.

The workshop is an overview of what is taught at the longer, 40-hour Foundations Course, where participants learn how to “feel peace, speak peace and teach peace”.Feeling peaceis the ability to remain coherent under stress. Speaking peaceis the ability to connect with others empathically and honestly through compassionate communication. When you feelpeace and speakpeace, you can BePeaceand teach others this practice as well.

Ms. Johnson says, “I yearned all my life to be a peacemaker, but I was missing a solid ‘how-to.’ With the practice of BePeace, I improve every day in my ability to actually model peace. I am a different person than I was five years ago because of this skill. People are amazed at how quickly they can begin to have transformative experiences using BePeace.”

News of this practice is spreading rapidly. In the last three years, BePeacehas been taught to 26 graduate students from 16 countries at the United Nations University for Peace and 38 representatives from 10 countries at the 2009 Summit of the Global Alliance of Ministries and Departments for Peace. It has been initiated in ten states in the USA, as well as Canada, Europe and Central America.

Rasur Foundation International aims to train teachers and counselors in BePeaceso these individuals can pass on the practice to students and parents in their school community. We also offer trainings for the general public help to fund the BePeace school program. We believe that to become more peaceful nations we must begin within ourselves and that teaching our children is the logical first step to shifting generational violence into lasting peace.
